B L A C K

So there’s an idea we had a few years ago. We thought about pooling songs about the black experience and sequence them into a story. As with most audacious ideas that require extensive research, it got back-burnered. Last year, with the heavy media attention on black matters, it felt like the proper moment to revisit our idea. But, as Sen pointed out, there were a lot of emotions and it was too daunting to swim into them. The more we ruminated about it, the more we came confronted with a simple truth: we live the black experience daily and there’s no escaping it. So, this isn’t our fully formed idea. This is just a draft of sorts. We wanted to call it “An Aborted Attempt at Summing Up the Black Experience.” Eventually, we settled with “B L A C K”.
