Roll and Coasters: YES

Fat Joe has had an admirable career. He’s maintained and held his own over the decades. And he’s been able to adapt through the changes from the boom bap years all the way to the current days dominated by trap rap. He’s built clout such that he’s still sought after. “YES”, his latest single bolstered by appearances from Cardi B and Anuel AA, might become one of his biggest hits to date. (And that is saying a lot for someone who has amassed a boatload of bangers throughout his lengthy career.) So, it was a no brainer to start with this jam that, frankly, dwarfs all the other gems on this playlist.

I wrote as kid. (I'd die if you'd ever get your hands on those poems.) And I wrote as a teen. (We thought our raps would spearhead revolution.) I write these days to share my joys and perspectives. I am as subjective as they come. I found a bunch of blessed souls that are just as expressive. And Africa is all the better for it. (I think I never really changed.)
