Roll and Coasters: Binks

R&Cs: Binks

It’s all hip-hop in here and I have some of the more interesting up-and-comers (Celly Ru and PC Tweezie for instance) rubbing shoulders with beloved vets (the likes of Curren$y and Styles P). You will notice quickly that the US is taking a back seat to Hip-Hop Made in France. “Binks” is the latest single from 100 Blaze with Koba LaD, two of the brighter lights in the new guard of emcees from France where the more established wordsmiths have proven over the years to quickly adapt to, blend and embrace new styles and new sounds. The playlist also makes room for capable ambassadors from Congo (Biz Ice), Ghana (Sarkodie), the Quebec province of Canada (Koriass) and South Africa (YoungstaCPT). Finally, I squeezed through a couple of upstarts from Nigeria (Solex C) and Senegal (Owane). You’ll agree that we’ve come a long way from 1520 Sedgwick Avenue.

I wrote as kid. (I'd die if you'd ever get your hands on those poems.) And I wrote as a teen. (We thought our raps would spearhead revolution.) I write these days to share my joys and perspectives. I am as subjective as they come. I found a bunch of blessed souls that are just as expressive. And Africa is all the better for it. (I think I never really changed.)
