Score one for Canada and my namesake, Ahmad Balshe. Indeed, with his latest mixtape, Mumble Rap, Belly adds another solid piece to his growing (and impressive) body of work. It is further evidence to support why he’s such a sought after artist. The rest of the playlist balances promising acts (CR Blacks, Loick Essien, Ninho, Pepenazi, Ted X, etc.) alongside established figures (Black M, Faith Hill, Toni Braxton, Shatta Wale, etc.). As is becoming practice, I included the complementary short film to Rhyon’s debut album, Pretty Girl.
I wrote as kid. (I'd die if you'd ever get your hands on those poems.) And I wrote as a teen. (We thought our raps would spearhead revolution.) I write these days to share my joys and perspectives. I am as subjective as they come. I found a bunch of blessed souls that are just as expressive. And Africa is all the better for it. (I think I never really changed.)
