The D’Angelo Live Experience

D'Angelo Live (compiled & mixed by Sam Champ)

An accomplished musician and multi-hyphenate artist — he sings, produces and writes — D’Angelo is most notably a mesmerizing performer. For those of us that have yet to see him perform in concert, this mix of live performances (circa 2012) commissioned by Okayplayer should serve as an impetus to seek out his nearest future show.

It’s been highly documented, After two critically-acclaimed award-winning albums (Brown Sugar in 1995 and Voodoo in 2000), D’Angelo went through a decade plus of personal and creative struggles and eventually surmounted them to release the impressive Black Messiah album in 2014.

Before that, the artist went back on the stage with a mini European tour. And so DJ Sam Champ went to work with audio footage from those dates for a mix of live D’Angelo!

It includes songs from Brown Sugar, Voodoo as well as covers from artists that have influenced him (Earth Wind & Fire’s “Can’t Hide Love”) and
worked with him (Slum Village’s “Fall in Love”).
