Everybody loves a good comeback story. And everybody can’t be mad at a good love story. Davido may possibly have both on his hand right now. It wasn’t that long that he was embroiled in a nasty custody battle with his baby mama. More recently he was bereft of close friends and associates; the court of public opinion piled on his grief and blamed their deaths on him. He had to mourn while defending his name. In all those dark times, he was able to sustain a rejuvenated career with hit after hit after hit. The latest one, “Assurance”, is an ode to his ride-or-die girlfriend and the lover-shower-in-song is deservedly getting Davido all plaudits and accolades. With a few exceptions towards the end, I’m centering a playlist on love, and I got doozies from the likes of Amenazzy, Chidinma and Ommy Dimpoz. Finally, rest in peace Martín Elías.
