I can’t quite describe the delight that takes hold of me whenever I hear a DJ Premier trademark production. I’m talking about the buttery soul sample chops. I’m referring to that unrelenting boom bap. Oh lest I forget those timely scratches! That leads me to Primo’s Gang Starr mate, the dearly departed Guru. With his husky baritone and measured flow, the Boston native always seemed tailor-made for Premier’s beats. So, “Family and Loyalty”, the lead-off single to the duo’s epilogue album, is a welcome bittersweet moment<\/a>. I can’t quite describe the delight, but I’m always appreciative whenever it takes hold.<\/p>\n

Here, I have put together an assortment of emcees to follow this new Gang Starr (and J. Cole-assisted) banger. You will find that the motley crew makes for a decent snapshot of the new breed and growing breadth of hip-hop. I’d like to think that somewhere up there, the Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal is flashing a knowing smile. I’d also like to believe that, while you’re going through this playlist, you would be flashing a similar at some point. I know that I am right now!<\/p>\n
