Clearly, there have been nuances in the acceptance, adoption and recognition for African styles in popular music. On the negative end, it has ranged from vitriolic pushback to gratuitous misappropriation. Cue &#8220;Afrikan History X&#8221;. Admittedly, Dosseh might not be alluding to music specifically.
