For months now, week after week, I get to cull from increasingly copious amounts of new — but more importantly dope — music. Here, I’ve tried as much as possible to capture some of the tendencies I’ve noticed for a while.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For one, the OGs are still releasing music; they play to their strengths while stepping enough out of their comfort zones to snap up new (younger) fans. The current marquee artists are no slouches on the creativity front either; it’s only natural with evermore polished young bucks nipping at their heels.<\/p>\n

Lastly, I’m proud of our own African artists and producers that have leveled up as far as melding our traditional rhythms with the West’s and developing new sounds that have gone mainstream on a worldwide scale. Word to Derin Falana, “Let’s keep this shit going!<\/i>”<\/p>\n

If you’re new to this, every week, I try to put together songs that push the envelope, that are dope and that have lots of replay value. Let these joints make your commute smooth and rock you into reflection and meditation. As always, I’ll be back next week.<\/p>\n
