Simi, without a doubt a firm favorite around these parts, has just released a new single, “Selense”, on her new label through Mr Eazi’s emPawa incubator platform. (Does it portend a album of sorts or is it just a one-off? Time will tell… Also, we love it whenever those two work together – cf. “Doyin”...Continue reading
I decided to give my spin on one of our more popular playlist series. (It’s also one of our more suggestive series; no coincidence there, right?) So I asked the series mastermind for the creative process behind it and quizzed a few dear lads and ladies and this is what we’ve come with. Picture this...Continue reading
When Heavy-K released his excellent album last year, I was immediately drawn to “Ndibambe” and Ntombi’s lovely voice. Finding out what the lyrics actually meant — ndibambe means “hold me” in xhosa — and that the singer and producer were actually a married couple just added more weight to the song. It’s a heavy favorite...Continue reading
I guess that we should be grateful to the Bacardi brand here. Through their House Party sessions, they brought together the genius producer Heavy-K and the electro firecracker Moonchild Sanelly. Both artists have proven to be great ambassadors for South African music and, personally, I was always raving to see/hear such a collaboration. “Yebo Mama”...Continue reading
I am quite fond of the Pure Lounge 4 and I was pleased with the positive feedback that the playlist had garnered. I also liked that we dug into our personal pictures to capture the feeling I wanted to convey. It proved a winning and fulfilling combo. So why not do the same again?
Right in the middle of the week? Why not?
If you’re like me right now, ‘high on life’ might not be a sentiment you’d voice out in the middle of a work week. (And God knows they can be particularly grueling in the summer time.) Still, a lot of you were smart enough to take some days off to recharge and (most probably) soak...Continue reading
We all need music most times. Personally, I can’t think of a better time to listen to good music than during the commute. Therein lies the premise for “Smoke & Mirrors.” There’s nothing wrong with tuning into the radio. But, these are songs that have staying power!
We still mourn the untimely passing of Ebony Reign and as more songs like the thoughtful “Aseda”, we are reminded of the talent and promise we’ve lost. Her aptly-titled debut album, Bonyfied, has several gems. So we celebrate Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng again and again… And again!
